The Mogambo Bars brand traces its origins to Manila in the early 1980s, when its first bar was opened by British founder Nigel Hogge. The name “Mogambo” was inspired by the classic 1953 Hollywood film of the same name, starring Grace Kelly, Clark Gable and Ava Gardner. Set in Africa, the film provided the inspiration for the bar’s distinctive jungle theme — a signature that remains integral to the brand today. Mogambo Bar & Restaurant in Singapore proudly displays one of the original movie posters as well as a painted mural version.

Following the success of the Manila flagship, Mr Hogge expanded the brand internationally with the opening of Mogambo Tokyo in February 1992. Located in Roppongi, one of Tokyo’s most vibrant nightlife districts, the bar quickly established itself as a destination for the city’s expatriate community. Its immersive jungle setting, lively atmosphere and signature bell-ringing shot tradition set it apart, making Mogambo a long-standing favourite in the area.

Building on this momentum, Geronimo Shot Bar opened in Roppongi in January 1994. Featuring a Native American theme, Geronimo introduced its own take on the communal shot-buying experience, replacing the bell with a drum that guests could beat to signal a round for the bar.

Mogambo Singapore followed in June 2011, opening its doors in the buzzing Boat Quay area. The launch was warmly received by both expatriates familiar with the Tokyo brand and a new generation of local patrons, quickly establishing Mogambo as a lively fixture in Singapore’s nightlife scene.

In January 2013, Geronimo Shot Bar expanded to Hong Kong’s iconic Lan Kwai Fong district. Over the next 13 years, Geronimo Hong Kong became synonymous with unforgettable nights and an electric party atmosphere. While the venue has since closed, its legacy remains firmly etched in the memories of those who experienced it.

October 2014 marked the arrival of Hero’s in Singapore. As a live music and sports venue, Hero’s brought renewed energy to Boat Quay and quickly gained a loyal following. Continuing the evolution of the brand, Mogambo Tokyo was reborn in June 2017, returning to Roppongi and re-establishing its place as a home for unforgettable nights and the unmistakable sound of the Mogambo bell.

Today, the Mogambo Asia Group continues to grow, driven by a passion for distinctive concepts, memorable experiences and strong community connections. Constantly on the lookout for new adventures and creative ideas, the group is actively exploring opportunities to develop and launch new concepts across Asia.
